Re-leaf
Re-Leaf is an ecological tree pool designed for streets and public spaces. Fallen leaves are gathered inside the semi-enclosed basin, where rain and snow compact them until they decompose. The rotted leaves act as a natural fertilizer that increases soil nutrients and supports tree growth. The semi-closed form also reduces water runoff and helps protect soil moisture. Re-Leaf is made of cast iron and consists of four identical parts, which are joined before installation around a tree. The tree pool measures 1300 by 1300 by 250 millimetres.
Re-leaf Tree Pool by Wenkai Xue has been highlighted as a creative illustration of industrial design by the A' Design Award. The A' Street and City Furniture Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design recognition program which recognizes excellent design of benches, bollards, bus shelters, bicycle racks, litter bins, planters, signage, lighting fixtures and more.
